Angelica Greuner is originally from Örnskölsvik. She came to the US in 1994 as an Aupair a couple of years later she returned and the rest is history, as they say. She studied media and communication at Hunter College and had an internship at the Swedish-American magazine Nordstjernan during her senior year. A long time dream for Angelica was to start her own business. Together with and American actress she did just this 3 years ago. The company, Merry Makers (see further down), does events for children and families. They are now working on the DinnerConnect.com website as well.

Tina Easton designs and makes her own glass and silver jewellery. She takes inspiration from the coastal areas in west of Sweden where she grew up, often combining materials and techniques, loving contrasts in colours and textures.  

Dichroic glass is a speciality glass developed by the aerospace industry in the 1950s. Dichroic refers to the property of having more than one colour when viewed from different angles. Thin layers of metallic oxides get deposited on the surface of the glass, giving an extraordinary selection of vivid colours.  I cut pieces of glass, stack them and then fire them in a kiln. The resulting pieces of jewellery are both stunning and unique as no two firings are the same.

An independent instructor offering Swedish Classes and Drama Classes, along with Healing for balance and well being.

As a Reiki Master of the Center of Living Light, a non for profit organization aiming to serve the community, Malin cooperate closely with them by hosting a monthly Reiki circle on the Upper West Side, and by working as one of their autonomous energy Healers of Reiki.  She offers One-on-One healing sessions of Reiki, Reconnective Healing and Seraphim Blueprint.  
            Besides her work as a Healer she facilitates Adult Summer Swedish classes, Private Tutoring in Swedish and produces various art projects within the theater.

Her newest venture is Dramadish. A project combining all her fields of expertise: drama, Swedish, producing, healing and acting. Dramadish are drama classes for younger bilingual children, with the emphasis on Scandinavian Culture, Folklore, Mythology and the Swedish language. The Swedish language will be learned and practised in a fun and natural way by reading stories from Scandinavian folklore, which is filled with mythological creatures like elfs, gnomes, trolls and fairies, also called Tufte-Folk as a general term, that inspire children’s imagination. Stimulating drama games, storytelling, and role-playing, by means of acting out the stories with the help of simple props, the Swedish language will be developed, while the child can grow in their individual expression and team work skills as well, as a benefit of Drama.    

Malin Tybahl is originally from Linkoping, Sweden, but has lived in New York City for the past 10 years. She came to attend acting school and is a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater. Furthermore, she has a BA in English Literature and Drama Communication from Linkoping University, and is a graduate of the Theater Pedagogue Program at Marieborg Folkhogskola, Sweden. Malin is still an active actor and produces various projects within the theater, although her main work since five years is as a Swedish Instructor at NYU SCPS and as a Drama Teacher and Coordinator of the Drama Program at the West Side YMCA. In addition she teaches Language Immersion Classes in Swedish at SUNY New Paltz when offered. She has extensive teaching experience working with children, and adults, of all ages both in Sweden and New York

Nathalie Willebrand is 24 years old and she grew up in Stockholm. She studied fashion at Tillskärarakdemin and this is when she started designing her own brand Nathalie Willebrand. Since she cannot sit still she also decided to take a Master Degree in Finance, which she is achieving this year in New York City. Furthermore, she is working as Modette's Editorial Fashion Blogger "Nathalie in New York" (http://www.modette.se/newyork/blogg), which focus on fashion, NYC and her lifestyles. Additionally, Nathalie does photographing, drawing and lookbooks and looking for a design partner.

Scandinavian Stories is an after-school project for children and youth
aged 9-15 of Scandinavian heritage or with any other connection to
Scandinavia. Through digital storytelling workshops, it combines the
ancient practice of storytelling with today's technology, providing
participants with media literacy skills as well as a deeper
understanding of their Scandinavian cultural identity. The project
will start in the fall of 2009, alternatively spring of 2010 and the
preliminary venue is the Hallador Laxness Library at Scandinavia
House.

Martina Högberg and Melinda Martino are Swedes, New Yorkers and immigrants with backgrounds in the Swedish Foreign Ministry, children's issues, media and arts organizations. Martina and Melinda are currently raising funds for Scandinavian Stories and will be present at Svenska Kvinnor Expo to inform about the project.

 

 

Semilla Baby

Semilla means seed in Spanish.

Growing up in the farmland of Sweden and raised in an artistic family, Semilla founder Mia Morales’ inspiration is drawn from the quilts her great grandmother used to make to the mei-tai style carrier she carried her 9 children in.  All the wool was handspun and all the clothes handmade. As a child she remembers the linen fields and the smell of newly pressed linen sheets and towels. Creating designs from these earliest memories and experiences was a natural path. During pregnancy, Mia realized that there were not many products on the market that she liked for the precious little baby growing inside of her. She wanted to welcome her baby to the world in a natural and gentle way. By keeping things natural, simple and beautiful...her quest began.

Semilla uses only high quality fabrics that are all organic or recycled, which get softer with use and time, and can easily be passed down for generations. By making natural and pollution-free accessories that promote Babywearing and EC (elimination communication), ancient knowledge that is beneficial for both child and caretaker are shared and creates happier, more confident children and a stronger future generation.   All production happens locally by WAHM’s; work-at-home-moms.  Keeping it simple and enjoying every seam.
